This Untouched and Dangerously Beautiful wilderness, is a hillock located near Kamshet. A well known and famous spot for off-roaders, mostly bikers but also 4×4’ers.
I stumbled upon this place while in search for a route to the Wadeshwar temple located on a mountain top. This temple can be spotted from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway once you cross the first Kamshet tunnel driving towards the second. Right above the second tunnel sit this Wadeshwar Temple.
Easiest way to access the Slope of Hell is to jump off the expressway after crossing the second tunnel of Kamshet on the way to Pune. There is a small opening on the left just after the abandoned Police Station, which is hard to miss

It is my assumption that the Slope of Hell must have been constructed to hoist and maintain the relay towers on the top of the hill which now remain decommissioned. The only reason I can probably think of for not maintaining these roads that have become an invitation for every off-road enthusiast.
Disappointment came my way the very minute I took a left turn. Patience is a virtue – So they Say !! 🙂 so I continued. Just about in a kilometer or so into the road, to my surprise, it started to disintegrate and disappear into the woods. This was the start of the road that would lead to the Slope of Hell. Once you begin at this point, the ride uphill is quite exciting. The road gets narrower, twistier and dirtier before losing itself in the dense Jungle.
A question remained, should I drive the car thru this narrow road or just turn back and the car stays unscratched and undamaged.
As I drove into the woods up the mountain I realized; This place is quite isolated; it is important to to understand that help cannot be made available in case things go south; in literal sense. My strong recommendation is to avoid late evening post dark adventures, travelling alone in monsoons or attempting this road as your first off-road drive.
Once I made my way through the twist and turns of this rough road, I reached the base of the Slope which presented a magnificent view of the expressway from here.

The Slope of Hell is a much difficult path to cover that gets steeper and narrower as you go up the hill. It is advisable to engage the 4×4 as soon as you hit the gravel. The purpose of the 4×4 system is not just to pull you out of the dirty mucky roads once you get stuck but also to give you better control on a slippery unstable drive

A word of caution – The forest is very dense and the trees and bushes are growing wild. This basically means you need to be prepared for the car to get scratched all over. unless you are scrapping big steady trees and thick strong branches, the scratches from the bushes, branches and creepers are not too thick and deep.
The final slope itself requires a Low Range of the gear engaged. This is the only way to cross over the boulders sticking out of the unpaved road

After detailing, Before next drive
Though it was a quick drive up the hill, the excitement did last for very long. A 4×4 is a must; a rear wheel drive would do to, but do ensure it just runs on two wheels then 🙂
