Karla Caves

Karla Caves and Bhaja caves are a kind of sister caves. Apart by around 10 Kms, these caves can be covered in a single working day. Yes!!! on a working day.

I tried visiting the two caves on a single sunday and it was practically not possible to even reach in the perimeter of about 4 Kms from their entry. Then there is a climb one has to be covered to reach the actual caves

The Karla village also hosts an Ekvira Devi Temple. Unlike the other two caves Karla caves are situated in the midst this village. Hence, easily accessible to a lot of folks. Its my belief that the Karla caves have become more popular than the others because of the Ekvira Temple. Devotees pay respect and prayers to the Devi and then head to the caves in search of “something-to-do-while-we-travelled-so-far”

There is a small section of a ghat (winding steep roads) that lead to the caves. It is a well paved crowded road that I tried to cover in the hope to reach as close to the caves as possible. All efforts in vain; I turned back to cover this on some rainy day
