Jog falls, created by the river Sharavathi falling from an altitude of 830 feet have a cascading effect on the step sections named as Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket being the tallest waterfalls in India is situated in the dense evergreen forests, 16kms from Talguppa nearest railway station, Shimoga district, Karnataka

“Joga” otherwise commonly known as Jog Falls is a waterfall on the Sharavati river located in the Western Ghats in Sagara taluk, Shimoga district. It is is created by the Sharavati dropping 253 m (830 ft), making it the third-highest waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls with a drop of 335 m (1100 ft) in Meghalaya and Dudhsagar Waterfalls with a drop of 310 m (1017 ft) in Goa

Why Visit Jog Falls:

  • View the majestic waterfalls: Visitors can view the waterfalls from two open viewing decks (one near the main entrance and parking area and an additional one near the Circuit Bungalow).
  • Hike to the bottom of Jog Falls: Post monsoon season. Adventure seekers can descend down 1400 steps to the base of the waterfalls and experience the beauty of the waterfall up close and personal. It is advised to not wander away from the guide you are with; as it is very easy to get lost in the forest down there
  • Visit nearby attractions: Honnemaradu (20 kms from Jog falls), a nice backwater area ideal for picnic and sunset viewing. Keladi (35 kms from Jog falls) is a historic spot one must visit.

As a mighty advantage to solo travelers, all essential tourist facilities are available at Jog falls. Your tour of Karnataka will be incomplete without visiting the Jog Falls during monsoon season. The view of the falls amidst the mist is a mesmerizing and soothing treat to the eyes, and is testament for Jog being the most renowned waterfalls of Karnataka.

Best time to Visit Jog Falls

In my opinion a little before winter sets in is a good time to visit the falls as the sky will be clear of the mist which will allow tourist to experience a great picturesque landscape

Monsoons brings in a different experience with the water gushing down the plunge; unfortunately, that’s the most you can do; is to see. Jog Falls in the peak rainy season is an ideal destination to get wet while enjoying the eternal beauty of the water fall; the noise, mist, chill in the airand of course, tasty onion bhajji and chai of the KSTDC restaurant.
